I use the crochet method, which works best with clean, dry hair. If your hair is wet, damp, or slippery at the start of your appointment, I will not be able to serve you and you will be charged a compensation fee to reschedule.
Prepare Your Hair
To prepare for your appointment, wash your hair 24-48 hours before your appointment and don’t use any other products afterwards. It is important to have clean, dry, product-free hair at the start of each appointment.
Deep Cleanse If Needed
A deep cleanse is a good idea if you haven’t washed your hair in the last few weeks or if you haven’t done a deep cleanse in the past 6 months. This process uses chemical reactions to strip your hair of excess product and oils that accumulate over time. Learn how to do a deep cleanse here.
This process should also be done for dreadlocks that are about to be reattached – simply soak the locs on their own, separate from your hair. However, you don't need to clean extensions when you buy them. The supplier should have provided you with clean hair that is ready to go.
Extensions
Make sure you have already bought your extensions, and that their shipping date is before your appointment. For best results, it is a good idea to use human hair extensions. I can supply customized extensions your needs, or give you recommendations for other extension providers. If you have bleached or processed hair, be aware that your extensions may not hold as well due to the compromised structure of bleached or relaxed hair.
Haircut
For installations regarding mohawks, undercuts, or other tapers, getting a clean cut before the appointment will make sectioning cleaner and faster. Trimming split ends will also keep your new locs looking clean, as they are less likely to thin out at the ends. After your first appointment, you will want to get your roots crocheted before visiting the barber so there is as much new growth as possible.
Accessories
Remove any beads, rubber bands, or other items from your hair that will obstruct the work being done. This way I can spend my time working on your hair instead of fiddling with beads or string. Consider having a hat or scarf on hand to wrap your hair after the appointment, as your locs will stick out a bit due to tension from the crochet. This is most noticeable for folks with short hair.
Prepare Your Space
A mobile loctician service allows you to get your hair done in the comfort of your own home. I simply need a chair for you to sit in and a clear space to work. The best chairs are low, standard-sized chairs such as foldable plastic chairs, camping chairs, and standard computer chairs. This way I can reach the entirety of your head without having to stretch too much or hold your neck at an angle. Clients normally sit in front of their television or computer so they can work, watch a show, or play video games.
Children or pets may require another adult to attend to them. That being said, I love families and am happy to work within a little chaos as long as it does not affect your ability to sit still.
Complete Communication
It is important to communicate which services you need beforehand so I can be prepared. This also helps me give you a more accurate price quote. All quotes are estimates, and the final price may differ. If you need any repairs or have other concerns, it is helpful to bring the issue up and send photos while scheduling your appointment.
You are required to pay a deposit in order to finalize your appointment, as well as provide the address where I will be meeting you. This is normally the client’s home, but can be the home of a family or friend, an Airbnb or hotel, or a nearby business. This way, I understand where I will be going and can inform you of any travel fees. These can differ significantly depending on how far I will be traveling to reach you.
